I have been trying to keep it quiet \u2013 nobody at my current job needs to know anything about it yet. Unfortunately <em>I let the cat out of the bag (die Katze aus dem Sack lassen)<\/em> at lunch yesterday and accidentally told one of my colleagues that I had an interview on Wednesday. Oh well, I\u2019m sure she\u2019ll keep it to herself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most logical explanation of this idiom is connected to another German idiom \u2013 <em>die Katze im Sack kaufen \u2013 a pig in a poke<\/em>. Both refer to trying to cheat people by selling cats instead of piglets in a sack at the market. If you buy the cat in the bag, you have been cheated.
